The day will come when you go from ‘caretaker’ to ‘receiver’, and there will be a lot of planning to ensure everything is tended to according to your specifications.
Before that time comes however, you can start taking steps now to make sure all your bases are covered.
A few things you can start with are:
What are the daily tasks you will need help with? Will you be able to cook? Clean? Care for a pet?
Will you need at-home care? What services are available, what is the cost, and is there a waiting list?
If it’s your plan, start visiting assisted living communities to see which fit your lifestyle the best.
Decide which family members will be assisting you and start having conversations with them so you are all on the same page.
Do you need to do any work on your home? Is it suited for aging? Are there stairs or any other hazards that need to be addressed?
Have a family member help as you go through this process. That kind of support can make this a lot less overwhelming.
Remember – if you start early, you can move at a comfortable pace.
